The Vibe: A Tudor mansion just outside Bury St Edmunds with a genuinely wow-factor interior. Think grand staircases and galleried rooms, but the atmosphere on the day is more house party than stately home.

Photographer's take: Every room here is photogenic enough to be the main event. The venue and the grounds are perfect for elegant and timeless wedding photos. The team know exactly what they're doing to keep the day running smoothly without it ever feeling stage-managed — you'll still get that magical, special feeling rather than a rehearsed one. The on-site guest rooms are brilliant too, if you want your closest people around you right to the end of the night.

The Vibe: Relaxed luxury, tucked away in its own valley — this is the venue for a three-day weekend wedding where you can properly settle in. It's owned by a family who want you to feel at home rather than like a guest at a hired venue, and it has a warmth and British charm that's genuinely hard to beat.

Photographer's take: Whether you want a church service, an outdoor ceremony, or a marquee on the lawn, the backdrops here are properly varied. I photograph weddings at Boxted Hall regularly and every couple somehow puts their own spin on it — there's enough space and variety that it never feels like the "same wedding" twice, which gives you and your guests total freedom to relax, laugh, and party your way.

The Vibe: An elegant country hotel not far from Bury St Edmunds. Recently refurbished, it balances luxury with a genuinely warm, homely feel — you sense it as soon as you turn up the long drive.

Photographer's take: This is a proper photographer's dream in terms of variety — the Rotunda as a backdrop, the manicured gardens, the interior, and if you're feeling sporty, we can even grab a shot of you on the tennis court. Because it's a hotel, your guests can stay on-site too, which takes away a lot of the logistical pressure and lets everyone actually enjoy the day rather than watch the clock. I'd say it suits smaller, more intimate weddings best — it lets you make the most of everything the hotel has to offer.

The Vibe: Modern-rustic styling right on the edge of the river — timber beams and contemporary touches, built for an elevated take on the barn wedding.

Photographer's take: The layout works brilliantly for the flow of a wedding day, and the grounds give you real variety for photos — the tree-lined drive, the bridge over the river, the woods for natural portraits away from everyone. If you get a good sunset, the long grasses and open fields make for some of my favourite golden hour portraits of the year. It's secluded enough that having guest accommodation on-site matters too — your crowd can properly let loose and crash straight into bed after.

The Vibe: A relaxed, dry-hire blank canvas with soaring beams — total freedom to design a day that's completely your own.

Photographer's take: Tucked away in the countryside just outside Bury St Edmunds, you get rural seclusion without difficult logistics. The rolling hills around the barn make a great backdrop for the drinks reception and any lawn games before and after the wedding breakfast. There's also a small woodland that's perfect for a quieter walking portrait session, plus the barn itself for something with a more industrial edge. And if we are lucky enough to see the sunset, we can get some extra portraits in that last light.
